11 YEAR OLD GIRL DIES IN GRIFFIN HOUSE FIRE

A SPALDING COUNTY HOUSE FIRE SATURDAY EVENING CLAIMED THE LIFE OF AN 11-YEAR OLD GIRL WHO DIED TRYING TO SAVE HER DOG, ACCORDING TO HER FAMILY. ELEVEN YEAR OLD KATELYNN SIMONDS. SPALDING COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT FOUND THE HOUSE ON THE 100 BLOCK OF SIDNEY DRIVE IN GRIFFIN FULLY INVOLVED. KATELYNN WAS A STUDENT AT COWAN ROAD MIDDLE SCHOOL. TWO ADULTS AND ONE CHILD SURVIVED BUT FAMILY MEMBERS SAID KATELYNN RAN BACK INTO THE HOUSE TO FIND HER DOG AND WAS TRAPPED. A SPALDING COUNTY FIREFIGHTER SUFFERED AN ANKLE SPRAIN WHILE BRINGING THE BODY OUT OF THE HOUSE.
