A 14-year-old was found dead on the side of the road in Meriwether County after deputies said he was shot and killed late Wednesday night.
The Meriwether County Sheriff's Office said they are now investigating after the teen, identified as 14-year-old Jordan Simon from Newnan, was found in the 12000 block of Rocky Mount Road in Luthersville, Georgia.
Deputies and first responders arrived on scene around 10:50 p.m. after it was phoned in. Officials said it was initially reported as a medical call after a passerby saw a body on the side of the road. When deputies got there, they found the boy shot to death.
The sheriff's office said the details surrounding Simon's death are still unclear and they are urging the public to come forward with any information that can help lead to an arrest in the case.
Investigators said they are specifically focusing on establishing a timeline and figuring out who saw Simon between the hours of 5 p.m. and 10:50 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25.
"No detail is too small," Sheriff Chuck Smith said in a news release. "If you saw Jordan or know where he may have been in the hours before his death, we need to hear from you. Your cooperation could be the key to bringing justice to this young man and his grieving family."
If anyone has information in the case, they are asked to call the Meriwether County Sheriff's Office at 706-672-4236. They also asked anyone with information in Newnan or Coweta County to reach out to the Newnan Police Department or Coweta County Sheriff's Office.
