Ann Lu Palmer Blevins

Updated: 3 days ago

Ann Lu Palmer Blevins, age 84, of Thomaston, GA passed away on January 15, 2025, at her home. She was born February 6, 1940, in Union, SC to the late Harold E. and Carolyn F. Palmer.  After graduating Union High School, she continued her education at Winthrop College in Rock Hill, SC where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics Education.

Mrs. Blevins met the love of her life while in college – John Oliver Blevins.  As fate would have it, he rented a trailer apartment from her parents which set up a brief encounter between the two that turned into over 61 years of marriage.  They enjoyed life together and made homes in Union, SC, Forest City, NC, Nashville, TN and finally Thomaston.  They loved to go on adventures and toured a multitude of states, sailed through the Caribbean a few times and traveled extensively though Europe.

Mrs. Blevins’ greatest joy in life was being surrounded by family and friends.  She was a great conversationalist, enjoyed asking others about themselves and loved hearing a good story – especially a funny one.  She emphasized the importance of spending time with those you love – and made sure her family and friends were together as often as possible.  Her favorite way to bring folks together was by cooking for them – dinner after church, celebrating New Year’s Eve with a party, cookouts by the pool, etc.

Throughout her life, she found ways to continue learning new things.  She started as a teacher but had other experiences including working part-time at an insurance agency, substitute teaching, tutoring reading to several area students, served as a church secretary and her last “job” was being a sitter for the elderly.  She was artistically talented and thoroughly enjoyed spending Tuesdays at the Thomaston-Upson Arts Council with her Palette Pal friends.  She sang in the church choir, taught Sunday School and enjoyed taking classes from time to time.  During her time in Thomaston, she had been a member of Hightower Memorial United Methodist Church, Twin Oaks Baptist, Silvertown Baptist, and most recently First Baptist, Barnesville, GA.  She was a member of the Ladies Martha Class.

Mrs. Blevins was married to the late John Oliver Blevins.  Survivors include her sons, John (Karen) of Thomaston, Robert (Lori) of Winston, GA and Harold (Tricia) of Milner, GA and nine grandchildren – Ben (Reagan), Rachel, Jacob, Elizabeth (Christopher), Will (Mary), Jack, Sam, Matt and Joel.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at 3:30 p.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Crystal Hill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 19, 2025, from 1:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m. at Coggins Funeral Home.
