An arrest has been made by the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office in connection with the murder investigation of a 14-year-old from Newnan, Georgia.
According to the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office, Thaddeus Stokes, 23, of Senoia, Georgia was arrested in connection to the murder of Jordan Simon , 14. The sheriff’s department says Stokes was arrested on Oct. 4.
Stokes is being charged with malice murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and other felony charges.
Simon was found dead on the side of the road in the 12000 block of Rocky Mount Road in Luthersville, Georgia in September.
Since then, investigators have been working with other law enforcement agencies to investigate Simon’s death, including the Newnan Police Department and Coweta County Sheriff’s.
The sheriff’s office says evidence uncovered during the investigation linked Stokes to Simon’s death.
“We appreciate the hard work and dedication of the investigators in this and the support from the Newnan Police Department’s and the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office,” Meriwether County Sheriff Chuck Smith said. “This is a senseless tragedy, and we are committed to seeing justice served for Jordan Simon and his family.”
The Meriwether County Sheriff’s Department says no other suspects have been identified, but the investigation remains active.
“At this stage of the investigation, we believe we have apprehended the individual responsible for this crime, but we will remain vigilant in our investigation to ensure all bases are covered,” Smith said.
Stokes is being held in the Meriwether County Jail without bond. Law enforcement officials are asking anyone with information to call the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office at 706-672-4236.
