Arthur “Art” Long

Mr. Arthur “Art” Long, age 78, of Warm Springs, passed away February 13, 2025, at his home. Art grew up in Wauchula, Florida. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp where he was a combat veteran in Vietnam and part of the 4th Tet Offensive.  Art earned badges for his expert marksmanship and received a citation letter from President Lyndon B. Johnson for his initiative and help in saving the lives of over 1500 people from Laos, a county near Vietnam. After serving for eight years in the Marines, Art was honorably discharged as a Sergeant and enlisted in the United State Air Force, where he served an additional two years. 


After his military career, Art became a police officer and then a sheriff’s deputy in Wauchula. He later worked for the state of Florida, where he retired. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.


Art was preceded in death by his parents, Madison Long and Hazel Bryant Long.

He is survived by his wife and companion of 15 years: Teresa Long; children: Craig L. Norris (Kristina), Trevor M. Norris (Renee), and Christina Norris Oliver (Adam); brother, James E. Baird; sister: Mary Silvera; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.


It was Art’s wish to be cremated. His ashes will be interred at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery.
