Barbara “Bobbie” Ruth Ivey

Mrs. Barbara “Bobbie” Ruth Ivey passed away April 19, 2025. She was born and raised in Atlanta. In her career life, Bobbie spent over 30 years working at Brown Shoe Shop on Pat Mell Road in Smyrna, a business owned and operated by her father. She later spent 25 years with Waffle House as a server, where her warm spirit left a lasting impression on coworkers and customers alike. A devoted member of Temple Baptist Church in Lithia Springs, she lived her faith through service and hospitality. While married, she welcomed and hosted many into her home—including the President of Mexico, Elvis Presley and missionaries from around the world—while her husband worked on aircraft for these elites. Of proud Cherokee descent, Bobbie held membership in the American Cherokee Confederacy of Georgia. Additionally, she was honored as a Life Member of the Georgia Congress of Parents and Teachers.

In her leisure time she enjoyed dancing the jitterbug, solving crossword puzzles, birdwatching from the porch with a cup of coffee, and tending to her roses. Bobbie had a gentle, loving presence that children naturally gravitated toward, and her family always felt the comfort of her unwavering care.

She is survived by her children; Clay Ivey (Diane), Jo Ann Pellegrino and Joy Peugh: many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren: several more beloved family members and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Hugh and Dorsey Viola Brown: husband of 39 years; Carl Ivey: children; Deborah Everrett and Catherine Ivey: son-in-law; Robert Peugh: and 8 siblings.

A celebration of live service will be held at a later date.
