Betty Edmonson Jackson

Mrs. Betty Edmonson Jackson, age 87, of Thomaston, died Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at Pine Pointe Hospice in Macon, GA. 

 

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 9, at 1:00 PM, at Valley Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Travis Graham officiating.  Interment will follow in the Valley Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home.

 

Mrs. Jackson was born in Taylor County on April 17, 1937.  Following high school at R. E. Lee Institute, she was employed by the Thomaston Times & Free Press first as a proofreader in the commercial printing department and later as circulation manager and Family Life page editor.  Her last employment was with Martha Mills in the Human Resources Department as a safety and health technician.  Mrs. Jackson was a life-long member of Valley Grove Baptist Church where she had served as Sunday School director, Sunday School general secretary, flower committee chairman- often using arrangements made with flowers she had grown, and Women's Missionary Union member.  She had also served as secretary of the Centennial Baptist Association's monthly luncheon.  She enjoyed gardening and cooking - especially pound cakes, which she often shared with friends. She had also been a VIP reader for the children at Upson-Lee Primary School. Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death by her mother and step father, Janie and J. D. Guined; her grandparents who raised her: Early and Lucy Edmonson; her husband of 65 years, Elmo Jackson; her granddaughter, Meghann Smith; and three siblings.  Survivors include two daughters: Kenya (Gary) Campbell of Thomaston, and Kelli (Johnny) Phillips of Eatonton; a granddaughter, Olivia (Cam) Ellis of Thomaston; three sisters: Wanda Guined, Kathy (Herman) Johnson, and Laura Baughcum, all of Butler; and two brothers: Edward (Barbara) Guined and Mark Guined, both of Butler.  Many nieces and nephews also survive. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38205.
