Brightmark, planning to locate a billion-dollar plastics recycling plant at the biz/park at the Thomaston Upson airport has filed for bankruptcy at its industry in Ashley, Indiana but founder and CEO Bob Powell it will not impact plans for the Thomaston plant. Powell said the filing will allow the company to take control of the future. In a statement on the Brightmark website, Powell said "this strategic move is designed to ensure the long-term viability of the Ashley facility and enables us to grow our business sustainably. We are excited about the future of our plastics business and our commitment to it and the Ashley community is unwavering."

Powell went on to say Brightmark continues to make progress on the development of the recycling facility in Thomaston, and Bloomberg news reported Brightmark has hired SSG Advisors, LLC, to sell the Indiana plant.
