Johnnie Warren Jimmerson Yarbrough made her transition December 12th, 2024, from the cherished home and land she was raised on to the eternal home she had spent her life preparing to enter.
Johnnie was one of seven children born to Cora & Warren Jimmerson. She cherished the legacy of her parents and siblings. It was her earnest desire to serve, and she fulfilled that quest in so many areas of her life. In her teens she served her country by working in the shipyards welding ships that were being utilized in the war efforts during World War II. She married the love of her life Len Yarbrough, a World War II veteran in 1946. Together they had two sons, James and John. They brought their boys up on the same principles and land that she had grown up on. Her committed work ethic carried her through 50 plus years as an employee of Thomaston Mills. She helped support her family, community, and the local industry. She served her church, specifically Clarks Chapel Baptist Church in many capacities, notably teaching Sunday School classes. She worked tirelessly taking care of the family during sickness, and times of need. Johnnie shared her vast knowledge of gardening, life, and Jesus with generations of individuals. Honoring the heritage of faith, family, and taking care of the land entrusted to her was paramount in her life.
She was known by many names, Johnnie, Mama, Aunt Johnnie, Granny, and Granny at the fishpond, and treasured each title as it represented her most valuable assets, those that she had invested or grafted into her family fold.
In addition to her parents, Warren and Cora Jimmerson, she is preceded in death by her husband, Len Yarbrough; sons, James Yarbrough and John Yarbrough; daughter-in-law, Bobbie Yarbrough; brother, Peugh Jimmerson; sisters, Lucille McGouirk, Gladys Jimmerson, Marie Jimmerson, Mary Barfoot, and Sally Ellington.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Alan (Kimberli) Yarbrough, Dana (Tyler) Griffin, Hunter Yarbrough, Abby (Remington) Garcia, and Tessa Yarbrough; great-grand children: Jessica (Jeremy) Tyson, Kristina (Matt) Coleman, Jeannie (Nelson) Grammer, Abby Fuchs, Tanner Yarbrough, Avery & Brayden Griffin; great-great grand children: Jalah & Phoebe Coleman, Huxley, Maggie, & Annie Grammer, and Brooklyn Fuchs.
Funeral services for Mrs Yarbrough will be held on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at 3:00 PM at Clark's Chapel Baptist Church, with burial to follow at Crystal Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 22, 2024 from 2:00 - 3:00 pm at Clark's Chapel Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Clark's Chapel Baptist Church, 176 Mathis Lake Rd, Thomaston GA 30286.
