Marion Alfred “Al” Corley, Sr

Mr. Marion Alfred “Al” Corley, Sr., age 82, of Molena, passed away December 17, 2024.  Al grew up in Barnesville, son of the late Ashley U. Corley and Pearl Harmon Corley.  After high school, Al joined the United States Air Force where he served in Vietnam and Africa and was an aircraft mechanic. After serving three years of active duty and three years in the reserves, Al was honorably discharged.  He loved the Lord and was a dedicated member of the Barnesville Church of Christ.

 

For many years, he worked for himself as an over-the-road truck driver and also cut and hauled hay.  Al was an automobile/heavy equipment mechanic who owned and operated Corley’s Repair on 888 Elm Street in Barnesville.  He had a pilot’s license and built and flew experimental planes. He was a real daredevil who also enjoyed drag racing on the weekends while building his cars himself.

 

Al was a former Mason and member of the Pinta Lodge #88 in Barnesville where he had served as Worshipful Master and advanced to a Shriner. 

 

Al loved music and in his younger years, he sang and played the guitar in Nashville and was currently a guitar player for the New Creations gospel band and Fairlanes 50’s band. He was known for entertaining people at many places including nursing and assisted living homes, the Williamson Music Barn and the Hollonville Opry House in Turin. Al enjoyed fishing and playing his guitar.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lynwood Corley and sister, Thelma Welch.

 

He is survived by his wife: Sandra Corley; children: Sheila Corley Jent, J. R. Corley (Tyece), Donna Howell (Robert), Joey Betsill, and Lori Shavers (Kane); grandchildren: Victoria Jent (David Caudill), Remington Jent, Amber Jent, Danielle Jent, Trey Corley (Lynsey), Christa Corley Edge (Lonnie) and Hunter Corley; great-grandchildren: Samuel Jent, Valentino Jent, Daniel Jent, Carter Corley and Kiley Corley; sisters: Evelyn Jenkins and Edythe Harp; many other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

 

Friends may visit the family on Friday, December 20, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

 

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 11 a.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Moody Memorial Gardens.
