Mr. Monty Veryl Johnston, age 89, of Milner, passed away March 15, 2025. He was born in Trigg, Virginia, son of the late Jack and Crystal Johnston. Monty was a veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served for four years. Much of that time was spent in Iceland.
Monty worked as a General Maintenance Mechanic for the Federal Aviation Administration in Hampton, retiring after 33 years. He enjoyed traveling, woodworking, tinkering in his shop, and building birdhouses and windmills. He also liked cutting grass and spending time with all of his loved ones.
Along with his parents, Monty was preceded in death by his brother Thomas Johnston.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years: Nellie Kate Johnston; children: David Mullins (Cheryl), Scott Mullins (Katie) and Amy Swanson (Wallace); grandchildren: Nathan Mullins, Kyle Caraway (Jana), Haley Caraway, and Katelyn Mercer (Daniel); great-grandchildren: Jace Caraway, Kamden Caraway and Carson Mercer; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit the family on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the funeral home.
Funeral services will follow at 12 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home. Pastor Taylor McKneely will officiate and Cameron Shiflett will provide the music. Burial will follow in Moody Memorial Gardens.
