Mr. Ollie Royce Vickers, age 87, of Thomaston, died Friday, October 11, 2024, at Upson Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services for Mr. Vickers will be held Wednesday, October 16, at 2:00 PM, in the chapel of Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. Rev. Maurice Raines Will officiate, and interment will follow in South View Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 1:00 until the funeral hour.
Mr. Vickers was born in Coffee County, GA, on January 24, 1937, to the late Buriel Vickers and the late Miriam Summerlin Vickers. He was a graduate of Coffee County High School where he played football, and he attended aircraft mechanic school. Mr. Vickers retired from the Georgia State Patrol with the rank of Corporal after a career spent entirely working out of the Thomaston Post. He served in the GA National Guard and was a Mason. Mr. VIckers was a member of the Georgia State Patrol Association, Georgia State Retirees Association and the Peace Officers Benefits Association. Mr. Vickers loved animals and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, Mr. Vickers was preceded in death by his daughter, Pam Scott, his step father, Grover McKinnon, and his step mother, Essie May Vickers, sister-and brother-in-law, Sue and Harvel Estes. He is survived by his wife, Ann Gordy Vickers of Thomaston; a granddaughter, Megan (Patrick) Sparks of Swannanoo, NC; a son-in-l;aw, Tyre Scott of Macon, GA; a special nephew and niece, Ronnie and Betty Vickers of Alexandria, VA; a step brother Robert Vickers of Willacoochee, GA, and special caregiver, Emma Weston of Thomaston. Three nephews, five nieces, two great nieces, and two great great nephews also survive.
