Thomaston Police Chief Mike Richardson told 101 News a 10-year old juvenile male was air flighted to an out of town trauma center late Friday afternoon after he was attacked by a pit bull canine at 102 B. Street. Chief Richardson said the child hit the dog with a stick after the dog chewed up a toy and the dog jumped on him , bit his ear off and wounded his neck. The boy's mother Brittany Kelly tried to pull the pit off her son and she was injured when the dog turned on her. A female friend came to the mother's rescue and managed to separate the pit bull from the two.

A landing zone for a Medi-Vac Chopper was set up in the field next to West Central Georgia Bank on North Church and the boy was transported to the Arthur Blank Children's Hospital of Atlanta. Animal control placed the dog in quarantine and the mother refused transfer to the E.R. so she could travel with her son to Atlanta.
