Ronald Wayne "Ronnie" VanHouten

Mr. Ronald Wayne "Ronnie" VanHouten, age 77, of Thomaston, died Saturday, December 29, 2024, at his residence with his family by his side.  Funeral services for Mr. VanHouten will be held on Monday, December 30, at 2:00 PM, at Trinity Baptist Church.  Rev. Bob Wilson will officiate,  The family will receive friends at Trinity Baptist Church Monday from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour.

 

Mr. VanHouten was born in Thomaston on September 22, 1947, to the late Frank E. VanHouten and the late Ruby Marshall VanHouten.  He was a 1965 graduate of R. E. Lee Institute and later received a bachelor's degree in accounting from Georgia State University.  He served as executive secretary of Thomaston Mills for many years, was self-employed as an accountant for Advanced Accounting, and retired as an accountant for Upson County.  He served on the Thomaston City School Board, having also served as chairman. He was a little league coach and a past member of the Thomaston Kiwanis Club and the Thomaston Lions Club.  For many years he served on the board of directors of Upson EMC.  He was a history buff and an avid sports fan.  Mr. VanHouten was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church where he was a deacon, Sunday School Director, and young adults' leader.

 

Mr. Van Houten is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Glenda Beverly VanHouten, his daughter, Lisa Kay Caldwell VanHouten, and his sister, Debbie VanHouten Brooks, all of Thomaston; four grandchildren: Erin Caldwell, Ethan Caldwell, Emily Caldwell, and Ean Caldwell; and nieces and nephew: Michele Harrell, Shannon Brooks, and Christy Futch.

 

In addition to his parents, Mr. VanHouten was preceded in death by his sons: Glenn Ashley VanHouten and John Thomas VanHouten; his brother, Donald VanHouten; and his brother-in-law, Robby Brooks.
