A murder suspect out of Bibb County died after shooting himself while on the run from metro Atlanta law enforcement, according to Spalding County Sheriff Darrell Dix.
The suspect, identified as Wayne Anthony Fuller Jr., 44, was wanted for the murder of Cotina Louise Fuller.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said Cotina Fuller was shot and killed at a gas station on Riverside Drive in Macon around 11 a.m. Friday.
According to the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office, a Flock camera alerted one of their deputies to Wayne Fuller’s SUV about three hours later.
When the deputy tried to pull the suspect over, however, the sheriff’s office said he took off.
The pursuit eventually made its way into Henry County, where the deputy stopped him with a PIT maneuver on Highway 155.
“They drove all the way here, chasing him, and they pitted him in our parking lot,” said Ashley Anderson.
She works at the Luxottica manufacturing business on Greenwood Industrial Parkway in McDonough.
Anderson said she knew something was going on when her drive to work took an extra 30 minutes.
“The cops had all of this blocked off,” she explained.
Moments after the PIT maneuver, investigators said Fuller fatally shot himself in the head.
The Spalding County Sheriff’s Office noted there was no exchange of gunfire between the suspect and deputy.
In a statement, Sheriff Dix said: “Our prayers are with the family of the victim that was murdered in Bibb County. Hopefully they will get the answers and closure they need, since the suspect decided to end his life before he could face them and answer them himself.”
The case has been turned over to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
